1. React with concentrated HNO3, conc. H2SO4, 55°C –> nitrobenzene + H2O

2. React with Cl2, AlCl3, Room Temperature.

3. React with Cl2 or Br2 –> No change.

4. React with cold KMnO4 or K2Cr2O7 –> No change.

5. React with RX. Alkylation.

6. React with acyl chloride. Acylation.

 

1. React with concentrated HNO3, conc. H2SO4, 55°C –> nitrobenzene + H2O, yellow liquid with almond smell. nitrobenzene (reduction) –> aniline.

but, when temperature over > 60°C. will produce m-dinitrobenzene + H2O.

2. React with Cl2, AlCl3, Room Temperature.

Benzene + Cl2 (AlCl3, Room Temperature) –> chlorobenzene + HCl

When excess Cl2 will produce ortho para.

Chlorobenzene + Cl2 (AlCl3, Room Temperature) –> ortho-chlorochlorobenzene + para-chlorochlorobenzene
